Hey John -- yea he is somewhat high functioning though there are times I see regression as he goes through his teen years. He likes hugs for a brief minute but is done quickly. But he does feel apologetic when he does things wrong. His sense of right from wrong is good. I think Dude knows on some level he is different, but I don't know if he case much.

Quite a story. Few years ago my wife took care of an autistic teen. He too couldn't tie his shoes. Dude reminded me somewhat of him; though I think Dude is somewhat higher functioning. Apologized and gave his sister a hug; that is a good sign; sometimes those challenged can handle touch. I'm okay with hugs, but I need to remember to ask for a hug, not grab for a hug.

Looking at picture I kind of thought I saw me as a youth. Mine is the mild, high functioning kind, Aspergers Syndrome. I knew I was different, didn't always know what the heck it was. I am a musician; may have been missed if I had been a neurotypical.
